Embarrassed that it has been so long since I have dropped into my virtual journal but couldn’t stay away another minute. HI! How the “hecka” (as my six year old says) are you? I’ve travelled and returned since we last gathered here. Maybe more than once. Pack, travel, unpack, settle (if you’re lucky), pack, travel. Repeat. This routine has been the nature of my life for too many years to count. It doesn’t appear that this dual lifestyle (living in two places) will change anytime soon. And although I know there are many folks out there who find the idea of maintaining two or more residencies exhausting, I find it exhilarating.

Well, usually.

There is too much catching up to do to dive in to the logistics, happenings and studio status, just yet. Computer fritz, computer purchase, data migration, swollen batteries, inconsistent internet, art, and design, etc., are a few of the excuses that have kept me from you so long. But, just because I haven’t been here doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about you. Wherever you are. Often. Rest assured I have not abandoned you entirely. I am taking some time to refine my virtual mission. And I think when all is said and done, upcoming changes will be embraced by many with open eyes, hearts and laptops.

In the meanwhile, know that I am only an email away. I am spending more time creating in the studio and less time on line. The spring creation bug has arrived full force and I am allowing myself to cohabit with the impulses and inspiration fluttering in my yard, studio and life. I apologize for being a horrible blogger. I pray that you will hold me in good graces and look forward to the arrival of new content. As we say in Jamaica, SOON COME…

One Love, walk good, honing…

It’s a beautiful, shiny new week. Even if it feels like the road is too long, anything is possible when the goals and destination are specific. Imagine Change. Don’t forget to soak in the scenery along the way. It is after all, more about the journey than the destination.

Inspired by the lovely shutter sisters today, I am merging left and right brain. It takes the analytical baby steps of left brain and the creative letting go of the right brain to achieve and manifest the vision.

I am learning to lean on both sides of my brain when necessary. There is beauty to behold in their union. In the image above, the left brain is represented by the long and winding road. The right, conveyed through the fantastical sunset, offering, vision, change and all that is possible, in a stunning array of colors.

I thought I would be ready with before and after storage solution pictures today. Not the case, as my left brain has wandered from the task list. Ummm, slightly detoured by creative ideas hailing from the right side of my cranium, I have yet to complete said installation. Don’t give up on me. I will finish the shelves. I promise.

In the meanwhile, I am embracing the clean slate of Monday with joy. Hoping to power through my to do list and get on track. Cleaning corners and behind appliances. Packing up clothes that no longer fit my ever growing children. Mailings, groceries, shelves, etc. are the order of the day. The biggest challenge, is finding a way to make it all fun!

Are your days dominated by more left or right brain activities? Shake it up a bit this week. Do it different, stretch to make the uggggghhs (bureaucratic, left brain dailies) more fun. Or maybe you, like me, need to focus in and utilize your left brain prowess to harness the tremendous creative capacity of the right brain?

Either way, have a fabulous Manifest Monday! Do share what you are working on!

One Love, walk good, wo-manifesting…

Today, I share with you a short list of reasons every day should be a huge international celebration of Women! If you are a woman (more than likely if you’re reading this blog, but don’t feel any way if you aren’t, a woman that is) love up yourself and all the women you know and cherish. Send whispers, hugs, flowers, good food gratitude and pure blessings to the women in your life!

1. Mother Nature is a Woman

2. According to the Grateful Dead, “The Women are Smarter”

3. The words man and male are both consumed by the words Woman & Female

4. No matter who, or where, you are, (chances are) you came out of a Woman

5. Our daughters will grow to be Women

6. Africa is a Woman

7. Patience

8. The Moon

9. Strength

10. My Mom (and yours)

For every woman everywhere…

For every woman

in the world

There is a love Divine

We are capable beyond

our wildest dreams

and before our oldest memories

it will be her story again

it is her time

together, we can heal

ourselves

our families

the planet

and the wounded

hearts

The goddess reigns

see her

in the weather

dancing

on the coasts

reaching

for the yellow orb

in the sky

see her

alive and well

One Love, walk good, Happy International Women’s Day!

Paint, digital and textile media are running things in the studio this week. Today I am featuring infamous, studio patron goat, Luma. She is not entirely random, I am after all, a capricorn. And this is my goat.

I’m over at StudioJRU again for Sneak Peek Studio Friday! Lots going on in this lil studio as of late. I am occasionally blessed with flash floods in the form of creative brain surges (i.e., ideas). The last few days have been a consistent onslaught of artistic imaginings. Inspiration doesn’t sleep. I lay awake visioning, untangling, planning, problem solving. I am practicing inhaling gratitude. It is at the root of everything. Sincere, humble gratitude for life, breath, sunshine, greens, time to create, fruit, my hands, my family…

But perhaps most of all this week, I am grateful for the abundance of the ilaful, strikingly beautiful, color saturated, coat of mother nature that dances daily across the horizon.

Super excited about branching into flora adornment, head dressings, blooms of color, etc. Above is an example of my recent explorations and musings with floral creations. I am currently focused on durability and the versatility of wearability. Ideally, accents and accessories of this fine blend can be worn as brooches, hair pins, or clips, etc. More ideas and lovelies soon come.

It’s the last week of painting class and I’m already missing it. I thrive on the consistency and challenge of keeping up with assignments, community encouragement, feedback and all. I am still catching up as I find painting time slips away into the oblivion. The thing is the only way to do it, is to do it! So I’m gettin’ busy with many mediums but most of all paint. I have a long way to go. And I am thrilled to be painting often. 🙂

In the meanwhile, I am wishing you a fabulous weekend. Full of color, floods of inspiration, rest and relaxation, and anything that you find beautiful!

One Love, walk good, living in gratitude, especially when things get sticky…

From the studio this week I present to you…

Six Pictures, Six P Words and more vulnerability.

Patience, perseverance, presence, positivity, possibility and politeness are the order of the day. I am striving for all of the above while feeling like sticking my head in the sand as I re-coup from a week that in retrospect may look prettier but currently looks like hell. Well, not entirely like hell, but close enough for government work.

I played hooky with my blog this week. I have retreated into a creative hibernation and a brief social hiatus. Not to worry, it’s temporary. Bracing for change necessitates objectivity, deep breathing and baby steps.

Still able and more than willing to be vulnerable and share a few peeks into the studio. It is after all, Friday and I am over at Studio JRU again, for a fabulous collaborative of creative folks being vulnerable! I am currently loving lessons in color and happy to share some of my recent explorations.

Injoy the scenery and have a fabulous weekend.

We have really amazing animal luck. I mean, it’s not like we go looking for pets. Seriously, other than the guinea pigs we’ve never actively sought pets to bring home. And yet…. Somehow, over the years we have ended up with a dog (who unfortunately passed away last year), a one legged chicken and her ever growing posse of hens, a couple of cocks (roosters), eight chicks and a tankful of very dramatic fish. And as of yesterday we are also the privileged guardians of a partridge. Yes, as in, a pear tree. I know right? Where did this extended family of creatures come from? We are sanctified with visits and strays, each arriving in a colorful array; Jamaica’s version of the animal kingdom.

Around here we believe that animals are magic. They carry a history of symbolism, folklore, cultural significance, signs and wonders to the human family. When we pay attention, and learn how to read them, we can garner valuable lessons from the messages they bear. Thus, when the wounded, baby, partridge arrived on our veranda we were immediately curious as to the meaning of it’s visit.

With a little research we’ve determined that partridges (part of the pheasant family) bring stories of fierce independence, love, fertility and cunning powers of deception. If the female birds feel threatened by a predator they will sometimes fake lameness or wounds to ward danger away from the nest. Yup. Total tricksters (for the greater good of course). Who knew?

Our partridge, Free Bird, aka Chippy, appears to have flown the roost to soon.

For me, birds are always a symbol of freedom and living above the hustle. Independence inspired. Flight. Migration, etc., hmmmmm, (more on this topic soon). I have intentionally avoided the acquisition of any more pets until we are settled on our own piece of land. But by some stroke of animal fortune, we continue to receive temporary and permanent invitations from the universe to act as care takers for some of the most vulnerable. What a blessing. Our plan is to nurse the bird back to health and flight status and release it into it’s natural habitat. The King has created a make shift cage that should be quite comfortable for our new found friend. And the children are beyond themselves with joy and responsibility.

Have you received any animal messages as of late? Do tell. I love this stuff!

One Love, walk good, Welcome, Freebird Chippy…
