I am Stephanie Banka Lyngo, S.B. Lyngo, a passionate, self taught, jewelry designer, artist and mommy to two exceptional human beings. I live and work on the west coast of Jamaica where I founded ila blu, my eco-savvy, infused with intention, adornment line in 2008. ila blu has allowed me to move forward with jewelry/production and engage my fire for art and design while being at home with my little ones. I am a Reed College graduate. My resume includes but is not limited to catering, cheffing, bartending, counseling, facilitating, teaching, consulting, and full time parenting. My alter sh(ego) is also an artist/designer and lives in NYC.
I am an adornment intuitive. Ultimately, I am gifted at translating and manifesting my clients’ intentions (goals, aspirations) in the form of adornment. I imbue one of a kind pieces with your vision/s and aspirations. As owners wear them in the world, ila blu pieces take on a life of their own. My jewelry designs invite compliments and mindfulness. Conversations are sparked, friends made, parking spaces found, promotions given, opportunities received, weight lost, etc.. I work with fair trade stones and reclaimed metals, environmentally friendly, cruelty free and all vegan products.
Inspiration is infinite and comes from a variety of sources including photography, travel, fashion, folk art, literature, culture, history and music. The luscious, paradoxically bountiful and hungry island (commonly referred to as “The Rock”) is a powerful theme in my work. Bold and sparse, diverse, elemental, yet unified, color and shadow, natural and industrial, earth, sky, old, new, wood and wata are all prominent facets in ila blu adornment.
I am obsessed with mixed media work especially that involving my photography. I am rawqueen, serendipity exponentified, a third generation photographer/film maker. I am a culinary queen and love to share phenomenal vegan cuisine with family and friends. I love sunsets, books, my heroes, blogging, acting on creative impulse, random acts of kindness, equal rights, the eye assaulting light and color native to the caribbean, my locks (yes as in Natty Dread, minus the dread), road trips, dancing, a glass of really good wine, greens, the color blu and wearing bold adornment. I am a poet, writer and art journaler, though as of this date have yet to publish! Check back real soon ya hear…
