There is something so refreshing about mondays. I embrace the beginning of the week with energy and excitement. Of course I am sometimes exhausted by noon. There is still something so clearing and brand new about monday. It is a starting over of sorts. Like buying a new notebook. When you open to that first, empty, page, anything is possible. All of the lists and projects can flow in an uncluttered and organized fashion. This picture is a reminder to me to stay on top of things in the studio and in my home. I am currently “working” on a new collection. Although, I am still in the “incubation” (as opposed to procrastination) phase. I am close to reaching for the tools any minute, hour, day now. Enter building phase.
I find it helpful to do a studio cleanse before I get down to business. Clearing and defining my space is quintessential to the process of creating. The cleanse gives me an opportunity to re-evaluate what I have in stock as well as mull over my previous work, looking for inspiration and mistakes. This keeps my work and ingredients fresh and sets my creative equilibrium at ease. Ultimately, the initial cleanse enables me to be fully present to the process. Indeed, this ritual has become an integral part of the process. I also do a cleanse after finishing a collection/show. For me this is a closure of sorts. It helps me to let go and not get too stuck in the mess I fashion out of metal scraps, beads, and tools.
So it is Monday, which has it’s own built in opportunity to cleanse, by the sheer luck and misfortune of being the “first” day of the week. I have used my monday wisely and accomplished many little and a couple of big tasks on my list for this week. Next, studio cleanse. I hope you are having a very productive day wherever you are. Sometimes sorting a stack of magazines on the coffee table is enough to make you feel more organized. Sometimes, a simple chore (i.e., cleaning out your purse) is enough to trigger a spark of inspiration so grand you are unable to contain it! Whether you are making lists, crossing things off of your list or just incubating and floating in creative process, I wish you a beautiful and organized Monday.
